The profitability of the printing industry had benefited from the low labor cost arising from the demographic dividends of the Chinese Population of the past but right now improving efficiency is the key to have continuous profitability. Therefore, efficiency will be constantly improved by the upgrading of post-press equipment technology.

 

As a post-press solution provider, JMD witnessed the evolution of four generations of post-press equipment. The first generation equipments were featured by standalone usage, full mechanical drive and manual adjustment. The mechanical speed was slow and the non-covered machine body made of common steel and iron parts, which made it heavy and low in safety. The second generation evolved from being just mechanical driving mechanism and offline usage into more inline usage with the application of digital control, PLC and variable-frequency control and significantly improved mechanical speed. The third generation is characterized by more automation enabled by servo-motor system controlling key processes of the work flow. Hence, it is faster, more automated and efficient. The fourth generation of post-press equipments is incorporated with digitalization, intelligence, full servo-motor control and the outcome is “Dummies operation” enabled by none-human intervention. Moreover, new technologies and material are deployed to modernize and beautify the physical appearance of the fourth generation post-press equipments. It can be customized to the demand of clients for flexography printing and other data exchange to achieve the JDF process.

 

Hence, the level of technology of the equipments is based on the four following points. Firstly, the level of automation resulting from the use of servo-motor systems and new electronic technologies is of important consideration. Secondly, the new materials applied make the equipments more stable and reliable. Thirdly, the equipment must display constant innovation by more input into R&D. Last but not least, the design of the equipment should have a heavy focus on ergonomics.

 

JMD, with years of dedication in post-press, has launched one-stop solutions for clients with the need to improve their post-press processes. For the post-press solution of conventional printing, JMD offers perfect binding machines, saddle stitching machines, sewing machines and folding machines capable of in-line and off-line operation. On the other hand, JMD also offers solutions for digital post-press operation. Namely, they are in-line/off-line web binding solutions and single-sheet in-line/off-line binding solutions. Currently, four digital machine models are available for on-demand  production order of lower than 50 books,100-1000 books and 1000-4000 books with operation simplicity and economic production cost.

 

JMD currently is upgrading the automation and production efficiency of our third and fourth generation models. Such as the Cambridge 12000 binding line and Rose 12000 saddle stitching line, these two third generation models of JMD have maximum mechanical speed of 12000 cycles per hour, fast and accurate adjustment and short setup time. JMD third generation models deployed reliable and high quality components in critical functioning sections from our German, American and Japanese suppliers and time-tested international partners.The high criterion on the quality of our suppliers will contribute to the stable binding performance of these two models. On the other hand, the Challenger 5000e perfect binding line, a fourth generation model of JMD, is equipped with a 26 servo-motor enabled automation system. Consequently, the simplicity of operation is enhanced and the need for manual operation is reduced to a minimum level of this kind of model. It has a high production flexibility catering to low and high volume runs as well as multi-product run. Predictably, the future development trend of post-press equipments will be characterized by being faster, being more ergonomic and being more “dummies”.
